Type E Thermocouple
Chromel Constantan thermocouple material for high-output temperature signals
Type E is a base-metal thermocouple type that uses Chromel as the positive leg and Constantan as the negative leg. It has a high EMF output compared with common base-metal thermocouples, making it useful for low-temperature and moderate-temperature measurements where signal strength matters.
Thermometrics manufactures Type E thermocouple assemblies as MI cable probes, wire sensors, plug-and-lead sensors, head-style assemblies, and custom replacement parts built to drawing.
Common Type E RFQ details
Type E temperature range
Type E is commonly referenced for approximately -454°F to 1600°F (-270°C to 870°C). The practical assembly rating depends on sheath material, insulation, atmosphere, probe diameter, and junction style.
Type E thermocouple material
Type E uses Chromel for the positive conductor and Constantan for the negative conductor. It is often reviewed where a stronger thermocouple signal is useful, especially in lower-temperature measurement ranges.

When to review alternatives
Type T may be reviewed for moisture-prone low-temperature work. Type K or Type N may be reviewed for broader high-temperature industrial service. Noble-metal Type R, S, or B may be reviewed for clean high-temperature furnace service.
