Surface-Mount Thermocouple Contact Style
Surface-mount thermocouples put the sensing junction at the contact point using weld pads, ring terminals, magnets, or other attachment styles selected around the equipment surface.

Use this contact style for skin temperature, line contact, and non-penetrating equipment measurement.
Surface Thermocouple Configurations
Ring / Gasket Style Thermocouple
A ring or lug-type surface thermocouple bolted or clamped directly to a pipe, tube, or structural surface. The thermocouple junction is embedded in the ring base, ensuring consistent thermal contact at the mounting point. Available in ring (circular) and lug (rectangular tab) configurations.
Best for: Fixed monitoring points on piping and structural surfaces where welding is not permitted. Standard lug dimensions match common conduit and pipe clamp hardware.
Magnetic Surface Thermocouple
A thermocouple sensor with an integral permanent magnet base for temporary or portable surface temperature measurement on ferromagnetic (steel, iron) surfaces. Spring-loaded contact tip ensures consistent thermal contact even on slightly uneven surfaces. Rapid deployment — no tools required.
Best for: Maintenance, commissioning, and troubleshooting measurements. Motor housings, pipe OD, structural steel, and equipment frames. Operating temperature limit: 200°C continuous.
Weld-Pad Surface Thermocouple
A weld-pad thermocouple with a flat metal base pad designed to be TIG-welded to any metal surface. Once welded, provides permanent, tamper-proof contact between the junction and the measured surface. Low thermal mass enables fast response to surface temperature changes. Inconel or 316SS pad, MIMS extension cable.
Best for: Permanent pipe-surface, vessel-wall, and equipment-housing temperature monitoring. Heat exchanger tube-sheets and structural weldments in aerospace and power generation.
