Product Overview

Protection Tube Thermocouples for High-Temperature Service

Protection-tube thermocouple assemblies for high heat, abrasion, and serviceable industrial installations.

Protection Tube Assemblies for Furnace and Abrasive Service

Protection tube assemblies start with the outer protective member, then the replaceable inner element, so maintenance teams can service the sensing element without redesigning the furnace or process interface.

Protection Tube Assembly

Use this geometry when high-temperature service, abrasion, or molten-metal exposure requires a rugged outer tube and serviceable inner thermocouple.

Silicon Carbide Protection for Molten Metal

Silicon carbide (SiC) protection tubes offer the thermal shock resistance and chemical resistance required for continuous immersion in molten non-ferrous metals. Unlike alumina ceramics, SiC withstands the rapid thermal cycling of aluminum holding furnaces without cracking.

Replaceable Element Design

  • Protection tube service life: months to years, depending on the application.
  • Inner element service life: weeks to months, depending on calibration requirements.
  • Element replacement: typically 5–10 minutes with no special tools.
  • Tube-only replacement: available when the protection tube degrades.

AMS 2750 Furnace Certification

Protection tube assemblies are used as control, load, survey, and monitoring thermocouples in heat treating furnaces certified per AMS 2750 and CQI-9. NIST-traceable calibration certificates are available for noble-metal assemblies, and lot-certified wire documentation is available for base-metal assemblies.
